Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Evan. He is an adorable 1 year old Boxer/Sharpei. He weighs 46lbs and may reach 48lbs when fully grown. He has a short hair coat. This baby was so close to being euthanized at a high kill shelters due to the sheer horrific number of dogs being taken in. Thankfully, Barks and Meows Rescue was contacted to see if they could help knowing our love and knowledge of both breeds. He was emaciated, full of parasites and yearning to be loved. Now he is just absolutely stunning thanks to his foster home! No more ribs are showing, parasite free and has become very social with the other dogs in their home. He is on puppy food to ensure he continues to gain some weight. He has gained muscle as well.Evan exhibits traits from both breeds. From the Sharpei his medium size, focus on his owner, texture of his muzzle, is out like a light by 8:00 pm, sleeping through the night and not needing or wanting to be crated. From the Boxer, he plays using his paws, has a soft, short hair coat, a good appetite and quiet. Just a super mix of both breeds.Evan is still a puppy. He is housebroken now as well as paper trained just in case. He really watches the other dogs okay but Sharpeis are not know for their love of dog playing. We do not know if he does Hewell with cats. He loves children but has to be watched when giving his paws as he gets excited. He is not a kisser but loves to receive them along with hugs. Both breed mixes are very family oriented and he is no exception. He needs leash training so that will be something his new family is willing to work with him daily on. A body harness and lead work the best. He rides well in the car.The ideal home for Evan is one where he is not left alone for long periods of time as he is still a puppy. He does well with all socialized dogs but a resident socialized female canine would be the best fit. A family with the patience and time for a young dog and the willingness to work on leash manners is crucial. Knowledge and experience of either breed is a plus.Evan is neutered, up to date, 4dx tested negative, fully vaccinated and on Heartworm and flea/tick prevention. If you wish to apply for Evan, visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
